Utilitarian Light Fixtures

Originally inspired by a light used on an industrial parts washer, this Radar Sconce light fixture is the perfect accessory for your utilitarian-style home. Portland-based SCHOOLHOUSE Electric Supply & Co collaborated with ACE Hotel to create this 70s inspired Radar Sconce in 6 different color variations.

" When sourcing parts, we stumbled upon a 1970s stamped electrical box from one of our East Coast vendors that had the vintage tooling but hadn’t used in decades. We crushed hard on all the stamped details, including a cross, risk-of-fire warning, and wattage rating on the canopy box face. Functional communication incorporated into the design is what makes many vintage designs so rad. The perforated guard matches the original industrial parts washer diffuser, but we developed a clever way to attach it using magnets so that the thumbscrews don’t scratch the paint. This fixture is practical, colorful and flexible—a beautiful and simple example of American industrial lighting." - SCHOOLHOUSE Electric Supply & Co.

Down at the General Store

The Brook Farm General Store is a small store in Williamsburg, Brooklyn filled to the brim with exceedingly tasteful and simple goods in the tradition of old-fashioned general stores, but with a modern twist. They're online store has made it possible for people all over the world to enjoy the old-timey general store feeling no matter where our may be. Not so long ago, they came out with their own line of products, called Tourne and their classic-yet-modern ceramics are all made in the USA and have a great handmade feel. You can get them in white or cream, or my personal favorite, a combo of both.

Sometimes a simple household item can be so beautifully designed that it borders on becoming art. The Cerno Group has elevated modern lighting and furniture to that level. Started in 2009 in Southern California, Cerno aims to "fuse quality, performance and resource efficiency with modern design," while keeping their manufacturing here. They blend form and function into sustainably-made, usable sculpture for your home.

The Softer Side of Indestructible

Proudly emblazoned on AT-95's website is the quote "A new American Industrial Revolution". That pretty well sums up their philosophy. With only a few select pieces of industrial, retro, exquisitely made furniture, AT-95 has concentrated on what they do best and kept it simple. Tables, industrial carts, chairs and stools. Cast iron bases, all "Designed and Built in Middle America."

Braider Nation!

If all you picture when you think of braided rugs is musty rooms in your grandmother's house, prepare to rethink. It is true that the long tradition of braided rugs in America is mostly made up of predictable colors and shapes. But Colonial Mills Inc. in Rhode Island breaks the oval mold. With modern takes on the style, you may just have a new opinion of an old tradition. And every rug is made at their headquarters in Pawtucket, just down the street from Slater Mill, A National Historic Landmark and the first water-powered cotton spinning mill in North America.

This is (not) a Decoy

This is the real thing. A small company doing it SO right.Decoylab explains it best when they say they make "playful and creative, unique items that are not mass produced but still affordable." That's right. You don't always have to pay more to support American-made goods. Decoylab makes large selection of adorable and sustainable laser cut bamboo clocks, housewares and accessories. All of their products are made to order and each piece is lovingly hand-crafted in Kansas City, Missouri.

Manned by Americans

Mannington is a fourth generation family-owned business headquartered in New Jersey. They are the only U.S. manufacturer of residential and commercial flooring that offers a full range of flooring solutions: resilient flooring manufactured at HQ in Jersey, hardwood and laminate made in North Carolina and Alabama, carpet made in Georgia, you get the idea. A truly ALL American company.

Against the Wall!

While most people cringe when talking about wallpaper, I get rosy cheeks. Many of us lived through the 70s and 80s when wallpaper took a turn for the worst, but trust me, the days of floral-covered kitchens and peach polka-dot covered bathrooms are gone! As an interior designer I've been using wallpaper for as long as I can remember - in fact, as cast member on HGTV's Home to Go I became known for incorporating wallpaper into every episode. And just last month I listed not one but two different wallpapers on my wedding registry. Today I thought I'd share and declare my love for wallpaper with the world... I'm saying it loud and clear, "Wallpaper rocks!" The truly awesome thing is that two of my all-time favorite wallpaper companies are American (and you guessed it, proudly make it all here in the States): Hygge & West and Flavor Paper. Enjoy!

Hygge & West wallpapers: 1 Petal Pusher designed by Oh Joy! / 2 Forest Leaves designed by Pattern People / 3 Daydream designed by Julia Rothman / 4 A Stone's Throw Away designed by Oh Joy!

Flavor Paper wallpapers: 1 Vivid Victorian/ 2 ONDA in Saltwater Taffy/ 3 Luxury in Lavendar / 4 Fishnet in white vinyl
