Mark McNairy S/S 2013

One of my favorite menswear designers Mark McNairy (who also happens to be a big supporter of the Made-in-America movement) presented the 2013 Spring/Summer collection in his first ever appearance at this year's NYFW. McNairy continues to surprise us with an interesting mashup of off-the-wall prints and patterns combined with his signature preppy silhouettes. Dedicated fans will be happy to see the return of crazy camo, floral, and gigantic polka-dot prints.

Roy Denim

Roy Slaper has one obsession - making jeans. Watching Roy passionately run Roy Denim all by himself out in the back streets of Oakland is really inspiring on so many levels. His obsessive attention to detail and his unique machine driven approach to creating jeans is what makes Roy Denim such a success.

Watch this great video produced by the good people over at Cool Hunting.

Back to the Trees

You know we're always down for great design for a good cause. Designer Matt Singer teamed up with Rivendell Mountain to create a limited run of backpacks benefiting the Million Trees NYC—a citywide initiative dedicated to planting and caring for one million new trees across New York City’s five boroughs.

Singer's muse was New York City itself. "Trees are an integral part of New York City—they help clean our air, reduce the pollutants that trigger asthma attacks, and make New York City an even more beautiful and comfortable place to live, work, and visit." - says Singer about his motivation to collaborate with the non-profit.

We did a little research and found out that the backpacks are handmade in the USA (Monroe, Washington to be exact). The backpack is available on Matt's online shop for $225.

One of my favorite boot companies, Danner Stumptown (do check out their website, its gorgeous), unveiled their new silhouettes for the forthcoming Fall/Winter collection. The new collection stays true to the brand's history in terms of quality and construction, while utilizing the latest technologies such as GORE-TEX and Vibram soles.

The Manliest Keychain

Are you ever in a situation where you need a screwdriver, lighter, tweezers, AND a pry bar? There's a keychain for that. And I don't exaggerate when I call it the Manliest Keychain. The EDC Kit by the Kauffman Mercantile is easily the best quality keychain that's ever been in my pocket. This thing can do it all; the pry bar saved my life in Park City during Sundance as my friends and I were putting chains on our tires during a blizzard, the screwdrivers constantly help me with my tripod/monopod/camera rig (you name it), and the lighter... The lighter just looks awesome.

Ignore my awkward sales pitch, I'm just trying to tell you that this keychain is legit; its in my pocket right now and I've already used the screwdriver twice today. The only downside is that it's a tad bulky, but hey, man up!

The Perfect Henley

Far too often you hear people boasting about how they've found the Perfect Tee (if such a thing exists). Well, why not the Perfect Henley? I've set out to solve this problem by sharing three brands' renditions of this classic that deserves a spot in every man's closet. And since I know you're all wondering...Yes! Each one is made here in the USA.

MarineLayer's Henley is my personal favorite. This is the hands down softest shirt I own. I need one for everyday of the week! AetherApparel uses 100% Supima Slub cotton for their Henly's, which makes for an incredibly soft and comfortable shirt. Choctaw Ridge specializes in men's undergarments, but I think you can look great wearing this Thermal Henley while you're out doing what you do.

Darn Good Jeans

Los Angeles is having a true manufacturing resurgence, especially when it comes to apparel. This is a town that highly values fashion, after all. One shining example is Rogue Territory, a company dedicated to "preserving the trade of handcrafted goods and supporting the skilled artisans who employ creativity and manual dexterity to produce truly unique, one-of-a-kind pieces." Their artisanal take on jeans recalls the workmanship of American manufacturers of the early 20th century and they are hand-making their jeans and pants in that tradition. Great cuts, high quality denim, built to last, all manufactured in downtown Los Angeles.

A Bag to Die For

Designed, developed, and handcrafted right here in Los Angeles, my favorite bag shop KILLSPENCER has created a new version of their iconic 'open top' Weekender Bag. While the bag still boasts their classic silhouette, this one is sexy as hell because the all-black leather makes it seem like the mature, rugged older brother to their other bags. The bag features premium vegetable tanned black leather, Swiss-made riri-aquazip waterproof zippers, and directional locking button-snaps.
