My Kind of Manhattan

I don't want to come off as a big drinker or anything, but last weekend I had the chance to try the much talked about (ri)1 Manhattan. I must say, if you're drinking a Manhattan, do yourself a favor and drink American! Compared to other rye whiskies, (ri)1 (pronounced rye-one) tastes very refreshing and smooth, while still maintaining the traditional rye whiskey flavor. The one thing that stood out is the spiciness which I wasn't really prepared for; then came the aftertaste of honey and a hint of dried fruit. My poor description does (ri)1 no justice, but imagine the world of difference all these intricate flavors make in a Manhattan. As soon as I got home, I scoured the web to find the recipe to share with you guys. Here goes:

  • 2 parts (ri)1 Whiskey
  • 1/2 part sweet vermouth
  • 1/2 part dry vermouth
  • 1 dash bitters

Pour ingredients into cocktail shaker filled with ice. Shake well, strain into chilled Manhattan glass and garnish with a quality Maraschino cherry and enjoy!
